 A brief history...

Shaun worked as a Theatre Designer, creating set and costume for many successful London productions.  He then took his design skills into the classroom where he remained for over two decades as a Subject Leader of Art.  In more recent years he has been a full-time carer, which gave him a need and an opportunity to paint and to obtain an MA in Art, health and wellbeing.

In 2017, Shaun began work at Chepstow Community Hospital with participants diagnosed as having early onset dementia and with the Royal National Institute for the Blind (Cymru) with participants who are sensory impaired.

MUSICPAINTING is a powerful force for wellbeing.

Chepstow

The group met at the Salkeld Day Room at Chepstow Community hospital each Monday.  Serviceusers diagnosed with early onset dementia were invited to take part in the two hour session. Guests from the St Pierre Ward (late onset dementia) joined the community participants whenever possible.  The process and outcome was highly valued and participants remained loyal.
Sensory Impaired Drop-ins.
In 2016, after meeting Zoe Partington, an artist who is registered blind, it became instantly clear to me that my workshops and paintings could and should be modified to make them more widely accessible.  As a creative person it’s important to me to consider "who I enable or disable" when making work.  At this time my business card proudly stated, 'painting is for everyone' but when I heard Zoe speak, I suddenly realised that this wasn't true.  Since then my workshops have tactile materials and many of my paintings audio description and texture and it has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to work with the sensory impaired and blind community giving them the opportunity to encounter musicpainting.
